Parents overseeing their project, aka- preoccupied
Despite the wind chill, tagged along for the ride
For the first few hours, I entertained myself fairly well
Mini sightings mid wander, acquiring stories to tell
Walked the stoned road to the nearest creek
On a branch, a long-striped snake to seek
Took a photo, knowing my dad would appreciate my find
Picked a Dandelion, love me or love me not, entered thy mind
Visited the Amish horses, we just met to be fair
Pet them- not yet- they distanced with a stare
Sat in the truck to warm up for bit
Dad joined for a driver’s side sit
Showed him my Branch-snake and he turned to me
“Let’s go, that I’ve got to see!”
We drove, faster than walking
Haha, felt like snake stalking
Missing in action upon first look
To locate in the grass, maybe a minute it took
Not one snake, but two! with a tiny tongue hiss
Dad poked Branch (snake) with a long stick, lightning speed response, cue heartbeat miss
Per Google, Northern Waternsake, non-venomous it said
About the animal that would naturally lead me to fright, read
Family history lesson, went to the proximal Cemetery
Still daylight, no need for anything scary
The morning’s adventures, mostly wandering at best
Grateful for later lunch leftovers and a blanket bundled rest
Love,
Simply Op
