In 2025, I started taking beginner line dancing classes once a week. I would have never envisioned myself in a line dancing class, but it was one of the few classes that aligned with my work schedule. I was immediately surprised at how much I enjoyed it and how my mind had to be fully present. If your mind wanders at all, you are at risk of missing the dance steps and messing up the dance entirely (lol). I also experienced the benefit of having a teacher, learning a new skill, being involved in a weekly shared activity with other people, and having the opportunity to make mistakes without judgement. In 2026, I even transitioned to the next level (above beginner). Fun!
During a random weekend, I created a YouTube channel (SimplyOpChannel) without any prior YouTube experience. I had viewed line dancing content on YouTube and that may have been my source of inspiration. What I learned from uploading line dance videos for a very short period of time is that I would rather spend my time just dancing without recording or learning a new dance entirely.
Instead of posting more videos of me dancing, I might just include a list of dances that I have learned below. They are relatively easy for anyone interested in trying them out. You don’t have to take a class to line dance; many of the dances have Youtube tutorials already. You can do it by yourself in your living room in the middle of the night and it might even make you feel better.
