Simply Op

6/22/26 Today, I looked down at my patient. He had removed one of his shoes and put it aside. At first, I did not think much of it. I work with occupational therapist(s); we take our shoes off all the time. However, after a few minutes, I started to question why he only had ONE shoe off. So, I paused our game of Candyland to inquire- “Sir _, is there reason you only took off one shoe?” He turned to me and he said, “Ms. Opal, I have money in my shoe.” Surprised, I said, “Oh, really, can I see?” He then proceeded to pull out a penny to show me. Sure enough, he did have money in his shoe. He could not tell me where the penny came from or why it was in his shoe, but we found joy in the moment none-the-less. In my history of being a speech therapist, “Ms. Opal, I have money in my shoe” was actually a first. Seems like a good place to keep a lucky penny. Perhaps, we all need money shoes. We chuckled and continued our game (money shoes for the grin).
