Letting people go, sometimes a lesson learned the hard way
An inner child holding on, just wishing everyone cared for could stay
Relationships with different trajectories, a different flow
Even when planted, watered, and given time to grow
Death, workplace turnover/restructuring, career changes, age discrepancies, break-ups… endless natural drifts
Sometimes unprepared for the sudden, yet common, shifts
Holding on, grip tight, for too long
Tiny little heart breaks carried like a repeat song
Less desire for humans, unknown novel new
Proximity and wait time to reveal them, though, true
Funny, kind, interesting individuals to love for a season
Sharing now, that it will be okay, my reason!
Reflection Note: This post was inspired by a “thank you” card that was written to me by a coworker who recently resigned to begin a new chapter (job). Naturally, we exchanged cards of appreciation. In the card given to me, a line read… “I have never had a coworker so kind and genuinely sweet… your compassion will take you far.” I have been thinking on the word “compassion” ever since. And then today, I saw the flower (pictured above) in front of giant house surrounded by other flowers. It made me think about how I used to see my extraordinarily small garden (relationships) and get so deeply saddened every time it changed. But, in reality, it is a beautiful thing. I have loved the new flowers (humans) I have had the opportunity to meet (even if only for an hour, a day, a year, or three years). I guess the lesson I have learned is to let them go, wait for the storm to pass, and keep caring for whoever shows up in the meantime (prepare for new seeds and growth). ❤
