Today, 02/16/26, I finished reading the book “Atmosphere” written by Taylor Jenkinsreid. This book appears on a multitude of “must read” lists. The book comes with a solid hook that ensures you will want to read to the end. I must not have read the synopsis as the relationship plot was a complete surprise to me. I really appreciated the emphasis on courage not denoting a lack of fear, but rather the presence of fear and moving forward anyway. I loved the lesson on working collaboratively as a team versus solely for the benefit of one. I appreciated how Joan saw the good in others and befriended even those who were harder to like. I thought about NASA and how I do not think I could ever muster enough courage or brain power to leave earth. I thought about how being far away from home shows one what truly matters and what one values most of all – things like family, shared time together, and laughter. It makes us question if we would risk our lives for the life of another. The author displayed so well how adults and children need love and attention. The book resonates themes of sadness, loss, love, connection, courage, collaboration, work ethic, dreams, relationships, family, and home. Overall, I would recommend this book as a solid couch read.
